Free icon libraries for UI design

11 picks · Updated

A good UI icon set is consistent: same grid, same stroke, same corner style. Mixing two sets almost always shows, so pick one that covers what your product needs and stick to it.

Every set below can be used in commercial work. The license or terms are named on each pick.

Questions

Which free icon library is best for React?
Lucide and Phosphor both have well kept React packages and are easy to tree-shake. Heroicons is a good choice if you already use Tailwind.
Can I use these icons in commercial projects?
Yes, all of them use open licenses that allow commercial use. Brand icons from Simple Icons are the exception to think about: the logos are trademarks of their owners.
Should I mix icon sets?
Try not to. Different grids and stroke widths show up side by side. Pick one set that covers your needs and draw or request the few missing icons in the same style.
